When was the last time
You
Watched the Milky Way
(The whole of it)
Slink through the sky?
Have you ever?
The sound of a ukulele
Drifts through the trees.
I can’t make out a song
But the sound
Is
Soothing.
I watched the sky move once
Forgetting that I was moving too.
It’s a planet I’m on after all –
But that’s easy to forget
Resting on cold sand at night,
The lake black
The Milky Way drifted past
And
I was astonished.
It was personal,
It belonged to me.
A woman’s voice
Now accompanies the strumming
And
I don’t like it as much.
But the ukulele is a gentle sound
Even Eddy Vedder can’t make it
Rough.
It’s a strong yet kind sound.
Singing begins.
What is she doing?
Is she Joni Mitchelling it?
I need her to stop
But
I’m still glad for the music.
Oh no!
She really is Joni Mitchelling it!
I suppose it could be the real Joni
And then I would feel badly.
But it’s not my scene,
Not my generation.
I will go back to my Milky Way sky mind
With a pillow over my ears.
Who knows, I could have
Momentarily,
Unknowingly
Time traveled
But rats! to the wrong
Era.
I have known Joni
in many eras of my life
and love her still.
I have know the Milky Way
in many eras of my life,
always a miracle
whatever the accompaniment,
ukulele or wind or river’s song.
I hear your dilemma
out there in the wilds.
It is all one as we travel the stars…
Some music guides us for a lifetime.
Methinks Peter Paul’s mounds don’t.
Freak.
