Beyond Baroque

discouraged by your passing

as it all fades away

the residue of you

a loud echo

your friends

a legacy

of words

which we cling to

hoping

the utterance

will perform

magic

the tongue slows

the mouth becomes dry

and we hesitate

in the silence

frozen

only for a moment

and in that moment

we rest in your memory

then lean forward

as if into wind

with pen to paper

fingers to keyboard

mouth to microphone

and keep

conjuring.
